Basics of Searching MDConsult
To begin your MDConsult search, enter your user name and password
(since OVID is not free, access to OVID is open only to participants in the
Evidence-based Medicine Resource Center during this course), and press the
"Verify" button. From the information page, select the category you would
like to search.
Searching Reference Books
MDConsult allows you two methods of searching. You can either choose
to search a particular reference book (all books are listed down the left
side of the screen) by selecting that book from the menu, or you can choose
to search all textbooks at once, by clicking on the "Search" icon, in the
upper right hand corner.
Searching the Journal Literature
If you select Searching the Journal literature, you will be presented
with the same screen that is available for searching all books. Again, input
as many terms as you wish (be aware that you are searching full text, so
keep your synonyms handy!), and press "Search Now". MDConsult will then display
a list of journal titles and citations contain your search terms. Just click
on the hyperlinked text to see the full text of the article.
Searching Practice Guidelines
MDConsult offers access to over 500 practice guidelines. You may locate
these by:
Searching Patient Education

join. You can also search the archives of prior groups for information that
might be relevant to a question. Or, you can begin a new group.
